What is a Glider Kit?

A glider kit takes a newer style truck body — cab, chassis, frame, wiring — and pairs it with a rebuilt pre-emission or pre-elog engine and choice of transmission. The result is a truck with a clean body and a proven powertrain, without the emissions equipment that comes on newer models.

Most of the glider kits on our lot run CAT 3406E, 6NZ C15, Detroit 12.7 Series 60, or Cummins N14 engines with fresh overhauls and paperwork if mileage requires. Common configurations include Peterbilt 389 and 379 gliders, Kenworth W900L gliders, and Kenworth T800 gliders.

Because the engine year determines emissions requirements, these trucks can be exempt from some ELD, DEF, and DPF mandates. That means simpler maintenance, fewer sensors, and less downtime. Call us at 877-987-8250 with questions on any unit.
